Chinese companies are increasing their interest in buying mining companies in Mexico, not just exploring sites, said Humberto Gutierrez-Olvera, president of the Mining Chamber of Mexico (Camimex) this week.

Gutierrez-Olvera said Camimex detected this interest from Chinese investors, but added that no large Mexican mining companies are currently for sale.

During the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Mexico last year, he confirmed China’s decision to deepen "economic cooperation with Latin America" and expand their investments in the region. Sergio Almazan, director general of Camimex, said that Chinese companies are looking at iron ore and copper mines in particular.
